Bio
Andrei Mamaev is a St Petersburg landscape painter, a graduate of the Serov School. Many critics note the artist's virtuoso technique in the spirit of photorealism, depicting the beauty and character of the nature being portrayed. The author's works are actively acquired by museums and collectors both in Russia and abroad - in England, Denmark, Sweden, Australia and the USA. The works of the artist Andrey Mamaev are on permanent display in the RakovGallery.
A distinctive feature of Andrei Mamaev's work is carefully worked out details that complete the integrity of the composition of works. The subtle tangled branches of trees, barely perceptible movements of each blade of grass, restless waves or snow-covered mountain tops - the artist conveys the state of nature with the help of a special writing technique. Graphic lines set the dynamics and rhythm within the paintings, thus enlivening the depicted landscapes.
In his works Andrei Mamaev refuses from the usual interpretation of landscapes. The artist's landscapes remotely resemble a theatre scene, where all the lighting is directed at the ‘protagonists’, be it mountains, chapel or coastal stones. Saturated colour contrasts with muted colours, which gives the impression of three-dimensional space on the canvas. Andrei Mamaev introduces the viewer to the behind-the-scenes of nature, emphasising both the whole picture and the fragments that form it.
